New Exhibitor Spotlight: Flame Work Designs

Flame Work Designs is an internationally renowned glass jewellery company based in Gibsons, BC. Known for their unique and classy designs, Carolyn and Anthony Green strive to create jewellery that is distinctly designed to turn heads. Their work has been purchased by members of the TV show, Supernatural, and the band 54-40.

Carolyn
studied the basics
and advanced practices of lampworking, a type of glasswork where rods and tubes of glass are melted to a molten state and then formed. There are many tools and techniques used to blow and shape lampworked glass, Flame Work Designs uses a process "derived
from the ancient Venetian technique of silver foil encasing." They hand-fire each piece and infuse it with silver while shaping it. For Flame Work, this process "ensures that every bead
will be similar, yet individual, just like you."

Find Flame Work Designs online at www.flameworkdesigns.com. Flame Work Designs can be found at Booth #164 during Circle Craft Christmas Market.

Staff Pick of the Month

Starting this month, we will feature a new staff pick from the store every month.

This week, store manager Ron Kong picked maple salad bowls by Dale Rouleau.

They are beautifully turned and the wood gets more beautiful with use. Bowls range from $125 - $250 and vary in size between 12 - 16 inches in diameter.

Dale Rouleau, a self-taught woodturner and sculptor takes unusual pieces of wood and transforms them into unique pieces of art. Using mostly native BC woods, Dale coaxes the material into expressing itself in the form.

Dale is surrounded by the material and inspiration for his work. Of particular interest are burled woods with their rough, gnarly surfaces. His work ranges from free form open and hollow turnings to variations on the classic vase.

July Gallery

Join us at the gallery on Thursday, July 2nd from 6pm - 8pm for the Opening Reception of Earth & Pine.

“Earth and Pine” is an exhibition featuring the collaboration of two sisters combining their arts of pine needle basketry and ceramics. Living at opposite ends of the province, the challenge was to trust each other to let their original ideas evolve as in the way of nature. The work is a symbol of their connection as well as of the interdependency of the pine trees and earth and mankind.

The show is intended to bring attention to the destruction of our forests due to the pine beetle pandemic, which impacts everyone even if they have not been personally affected. “By accepting the power of nature, perhaps we can calm the devastating emotions when face to face with the problem,” say the artists, sisters Doherty and Gullackson.
